Fernando Alonso just pipped Lewis Hamilton to the top of the times during second practice for the Canadian Grand Prix thanks to a late flying lap.
The Ferrari driver improved toward the end of the session as the track conditions improved. His 1:14.818 was just 12 hundredths quicker than the Mercedes driver.
Romain Grosjean finished third ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber in what was a close session with the top 12 within a second of Alonso’s best.
The session was largely uneventful. Paul di Resta suffered a fuel supply issue which ended his running early, whilst McLaren’s Jenson Button also had reliability problems.
