Hamilton accepts blame for losing second

Lewis Hamilton has accepted he was at fault for losing second place to the Red Bull’s of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.

The Brit pitted behind his team-mate Nico Rosberg after a safety car period opened up a gap for them to stop and remain in first and second when they exited.

However Hamilton opened up too much of a gap to Rosberg, more than the six seconds his team had requested, which meant both Red Bull’s passed him as he exited the pitlane.

“It wasn’t the team’s fault, it was my own fault,” he said after the race in which he finished fourth.

“I was told to have a six-second gap and I had more than six seconds and I lost out massively.

“That’s motor racing. I just wasn’t good enough this weekend.”

He eventually finished 14 seconds behind his team-mate who won the race.
