Nico Rosberg will start the Monaco Grand Prix on pole position, with the German so far dominating the race weekend with the fastest lap in all three practice sessions and the final qualifying shoot-out.

His Monaco GP result gives him three consecutive poles this season and gives Mercedes four poles in a row and two front-row lock-outs with Lewis Hamilton starting second.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel starts third with his team-mate alongside in fourth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.

Q1 saw a damp track create difficult conditions for the drivers, with several yellow flag incidents throughout – though no major accidents.

Felipe Massa was unable to set a timed lap following his FP3 crash and starts last whilst Jules Bianchi stopped after just a handful of corners with a sidepod fire.

Massa’s misfortune and errors from others including Paul di Resta’s engineer gave Giedo van der Garde his first taste of Q2 where he eventually finished 15th quickest to give Caterham their best start since 2010.

The final session saw the track dry out enough for slicks and improvements came one after the other as the times tumbled.

Rosberg eventually took pole ahead of his team-mate by a tenth to give them their best shot at a race win.
