Bianchi expects to make a step forward

Jules Bianchi has been the surprise of 2013 so far, easily outpacing his team-mate Max Chilton and out-qualifying and out-racing both Caterhams in Australia and Malaysia.

The Frenchman however says there is room for improvement and he expects to take another step forward in the coming races, particularly when Marussia bring updates to their car at the Spanish Grand Prix.

“In Melbourne, I was 90-95 per cent ready and already feeling really confident with the car,” he told Autosport.

“In Spain, we will be at 100 per cent, when everything will come together and we bring some new pieces to the car.”

He knows any improvements won’t be massive jumps forward.

“My driving is already good but I need to work on it and maybe I will find one-tenth on my side, which would be good,” he added.

He says further gains will be made with developments and he hopes they’ll close in on the midfield teams which include Toro Rosso, Williams and Sauber.

“Now we have to see when we will bring the new parts to the car and if it will give us the possibility to close the gap to the midfield.”
