The new Williams FW35 has passed its final crash test, meaning it has been given the go-ahead to partake in the second pre-season test.
The Grove outfit decided to delay the debut of its new car until the second test in Barcelona in order to concentrate on understanding the new Pirelli tyres with its 2012 car.
Whilst technical director Mike Coughlan admitted their results were “compromised” because of the abrasive Jerez circuit, he believes the strategy of running the FW34 was a useful one.
“It was interesting to see the new Pirelli tyres in action and having the FW34 here helped us to really understand how the tyres are working.
“These results have been a little compromised by the very aggressive nature of the track surface here, [but] we have acquired some useful data to carry forward.
“We now look forward to the next test in Barcelona and the launch of the FW35.”
The final crash test involved a head-on impact and took place last week.
