The future of the HRT F1 team looks positive after news that a group of American and Canadian investors are looking to acquire its entry and assets.
The Spanish team folded at the end of the 2012 season despite having only begun life in 2010.
Autosport reports that the team would be known as Scorpion Racing and has been given approval by F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone – though it’s not certain whether they would be allowed entry to the upcoming 2013 season, or whether they would have to wait until next year.
Their plans should become clearer in early February, but it’s believed the outfit would be run from a facility near Silverstone, using the current chassis and Cosworth engines.
Whilst Ecclestone has given his blessing and assured a slot on the 2013 grid should the takeover go ahead, the FIA’s stance is unclear, but it’s thought the 12th grid slot is closed following HRT’s demise.
This would therefore delay their plans until 2014, requiring heavy investment in designing a completely new car and acquiring a new engine contract.
