The 2013 Formula 1 calendar looks likely to consist of just 19 races, with plans to return to Turkey having stalled due to a lack of funds and government agreement.
The FIA released a confirmed calendar in November featuring just 19 races, but later amended it to include a ‘yet to be confirmed European race’ on July 21st bringing the calendar to 20.
Bernie Ecclestone confirmed earlier this month that it was ‘Turkey or nothing’ and with the discussions having come to nothing, the deal is believed to be off.
Therefore 2013 will likely see just 19 races unless a late deal can be done with the owners of the Red Bull Ring in Austria which has shown an interest in reviving the country’s race – though Ecclestone hasn’t shown much interest in the idea.
The 82-year-old also confirmed to Reuters that the Nurburgring will play host to the German GP this year despite the circuit’s financial troubles.
“It should be the Nurburgring and we are trying to make it happen,” said Ecclestone. “I’m talking with them today.”
