McLaren are optimistic they can close the gap to Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship at the final race of the season in Brazil this weekend.
The team currently sit third, 13 points adrift of the Italian team, with the aim of outscoring both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in the hope they can finish second for the third year running – behind three-time champions Red Bull.
“We’re optimistic” said technical director Paddy Lowe. “There’s no reason why we can’t carry forward the pace we showed at the weekend in Austin into Brazil,” he said of their recent win.
The difference between 2nd and 3rd is worth about £8 million in prize money.
“We’ll admit that our prime objective is to overhaul Ferrari in constructors.”
The team’s recent reliability troubles have cost them upwards of 60 points in the last six races alone.
