FP1: Vettel pips Hamilton to quickest time

Sebastian Vettel was the man to beat during first practice for the Singapore Grand Prix, topping the times just ahead of the current man on form, Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel clocked a 1:50.566 on the soft tyre which was just 0.049s quicker than the McLaren man.

Jenson Button put his McLaren third just ahead of Fernando Alonso, Pastor Maldonado and Mark Webber, but some way of the lead pace.

The session was a wet one before it gradually dried allowing the teams to switch to the slick tyres to gather some data. However none of the cars set a lap on the super-soft tyre, so some time improvements are expected during FP2 should it stay dry.
