The BBC’s Formula 1 presenter Jake Humphrey has announced he will leave the corporation at the end of the year to join BT Vision’s new football channel.
The 33-year-old has led the BBC’s coverage of F1 since they acquired the rights’ in 2009, but recently announced he is to become a father, and therefore has made the decision to leave the channel altogether due to the commitment required and the significant time spent travelling to cover a global motorsport series.
In a statement he thanked the BBC and the viewers for supporting him.
“I’ve grown up at the BBC, and whilst I hope to work with them in the future, I’d also like to place on record my thanks to them,” said Humphrey.
“I am incredibly grateful to all colleagues, and of course the viewers, for their incredible support from CBBC all the way to Formula One.
“My focus from the start of 2013 is on making BT’s coverage of football the best this country has ever seen.”
The BBC haven’t yet announced who will replace him, though Lee McKenzie is thought to be favourite.
