Felipe Massa has some important races ahead of him if he’s to prove he’s capable of staying with Ferrari in 2013, insists team principal Stefano Domenicali.
The Italian says Massa, who’s struggled to match team-mate Fernando Alonso by quite some distance this year, knows what he must do to prove himself.
“I think Felipe knows,” Domenicali is quoted as saying by Autosport.
“He needs to maximise the performance that he can because we need his capabilities behind the wheel. We need points to try to attack first place in the constructors’ championship, and also to take away points from the other drivers in the drivers’ championship.
“He knows that he has in front of him some very important races for him as a driver and also as a team member for Ferrari.”
Domenicali added that Ferrari are in no rush to make a decision on their 2013 line-up, but it’s understood that Massa has just a handful of races, less than is remaining this season, to close the gap to the leading drivers before he is guaranteed of a seat.
“There is no rush on our decision,” he concluded.
