Valtteri Bottas finished day one of the two day young driver test at the Silverstone circuit on top of the timesheets for Williams.
The Finnish test driver managed to lap the circuit in 1:31.436, some seven tenths quicker than Fernando Alonso managed during FP3 for the British Grand Prix a week ago – though weather conditions were quite different.
Bottas completed 120 laps in total before rain began to fall toward the end of the session.
Max Chilton, who finished second quickest for Marussia, only completed a handful of laps (34) after suffering an engine valve issue to end his running. He then handed the car over to Rio Haryanto for the afternoon session, with the Indonesian racer finishing third having only completed 15 laps.
Finally Ma Qing Hua completed the timesheets for HRT. The Chinese driver was caught out by DRS at the exit of Village and span the F112 before recovering to the circuit.
