The Williams team have moved to deny rumours that they have dropped the Senna ‘S’ tribute, in memory of the late great Ayrton, after false reports circulated the internet.
The Guardian recently quoted team principal Sir Frank Williams as saying: “We’ve dropped that. It’s time. And, also, we’ve now got Bruno.”
However on closer inspection of the cars front-wing struts, the decal remained in place at the British Grand Prix and every race before that for the past 18 years.
In a statement, the team confirmed the reports were false and that they had no plans to drop the tribute.
“Williams F1 would like to confirm that the Senna logo that was created as a tribute following Ayrton’s tragic death in 1994, has not been removed, nor do we have any intention of removing it from our cars,” it read.
Adding: “Ayrton will always have a place in our hearts and the name will live long in the heritage of Williams F1.
“The team would like to thank all the fans for their continued support and dedication to Williams F1 Team.”
The original article which appeared in the Guardian has been amended, but other sources around the web continue to report the false rumour.
