Webber ‘pissed off’ by illegal car claims

Mark Webber has refuted claims he won the Monaco Grand Prix with an illegal car, following a recent technical ruling by the FIA.

The Australian took a pole to flag victory in the principality last time out, but before and after the race, several rival outfits made claims the RB8 fell foul of the technical regulations because of a small hole in the rear of the floor.

Whilst no team officially protested the result, their complaints prompted the governing body to look into the matter. The FIA later clarified the regulation making the hole illegal.

Webber, who will keep his win, was angered by comments he won the race with an illegal car.

“In relation to winning races with an illegal car, I’m happy to be called lots of things and I’m happy to have criticism about my driving and lots of stuff, but I will not take criticism in that respect,” he said on Thursday in Canada.

“It completely pisses me off to be honest, because the car has passed every single, every single technical regulation after the race,” he added.

“All of the teams that were against it did not make any protest after Monaco, the car passed the test after Bahrain, the car passed the test after Monaco and now there has been a clarification on the rule, and the rule now is different and we had a car that was legal for the first part of the season and now the rule has been changed and we will start again.”
