Red Bull claims it never planned to use its illegal floor at the next race in Canada, therefore the FIA’s recent ruling doesn’t put them at a disadvantage.
The team had been running a floor which featured enclosed holes at the rear which caused a stir in Monaco last weekend with several teams claiming it fell foul of the technical regulations.
Despite introducing the current spec floor in Bahrain, it took some three races before Red Bull’s rivals raised their concerns with the FIA who, after investigating the matter, finally ruled it to be illegal.
The teams advisor, Helmut Marko, claims the team never intended to use the floor in Canada next weekend, therefore the ruling has no effect on their plans.
“We had not planned to use this floor in Montreal anyway,” said the Austrian. “We had prepared a different configuration using a flat version of the floor. Therefore we do not need to modify the cars in Canada.
“We are not disturbed in our race preparation by this decision.”
