Newly appointed HRT team principal Luis Pérez-Sala, believes a scenario which would pair the already signed Pedro de la Rosa and recently dropped Jaime Alguersuari, would be ‘unlikely’.
The former Minardi driver announced earlier this week that finding a second driver wasn’t an urgent matter, but an announcement would likely come in January.
“It’s a decision we surely won’t make until the start of next year because, at this stage, who will be the team’s second driver for next season is perhaps the least urgent one right now,” said the Spaniard.
This delayed announcement could offer a glimmer of hope to Alguersuari who found out last week that he would no longer race for Toro Rosso, however, Pérez-Sala hinted that, whilst it would be a nice Christmas present for both sides, it was unlikely.
“It’s clear that it would be a great Christmas gift,” he told Spanish daily Marca. “But I do not believe that this is a realistic scenario, because we have other paths to follow and have been speaking for a long time with a number of different drivers.”
