Lewis Hamilton looks likely to extend his current contract with McLaren, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2012 season.
The 2008 world champion has endured a difficult year at McLaren, which has led to rumours he may be looking to leave in order to take on a change of scenery.
However, the 26-year-old confirmed that talks had taken place between him and team principal Martin Whitmarsh, and he is likely to extend his current contract to match that of Jenson Button who is contract to the Woking outfit until at least 2014.
“Martin has already spoken to me about re-signing, so I know it’s there at some point, and I’ll guess we’ll sit down [to discuss it],” Hamilton told reporters in Brazil.
When asked if he thought it was likely that he would stay, he replied: “Yeah, I do. I’m in no rush [to sign a new contract]. I don’t think there’s any question of my commitment to the team, so there’s no real rush to have to do anything,” he added.
