Rubens Barrichello will head into the final race of the 2011 season as if it were just another race, insists the Brazilian, who looks likely to lose his seat at Williams this weekend.
The 39-year-old is adamant that he deserves to remain in the sport, despite having competed in 19 seasons, setting a record for the most race starts, currently 321.
“I remain positive and I will not say goodbye to anyone [in Brazil],” he told Autosprint. “After races like I did in Abu Dhabi, I deserve to stay in Formula 1,” Barrichello said in reference to his drive through the field from last to 12th.
Fellow Brazilian, Felipe Massa, advised Barrichello to retire with dignity this weekend, saying he wouldn’t want to see his friend paying to remain in the sport, but Barrichello believes he can still fight at the front if given the car.
“I do not do it for the money, I want to do another year in F1, because I love it.
“I think it will still be competitive after 20 years in F1 at the of age 40, I want to stay and I will do everything to succeed.”
