The first F1 Rocks concert in India has been cancelled following earlier postponement, after damage to equipment caused by rioting fans.
25,000 people had been expected to attend on Friday, but the show was postponed until Saturday after a technical issue with equipment. That led to fans rioting and damaging lighting and sound equipment.
A statement from the organisers, one of which has been arrested on charges of cheating and a breach of trust, said they regretted the action.
“Despite valiant efforts by organisers to repair the damage caused by the previous nights’ events, a decision has been made to cancel the proposed Metallica show, which was last night postponed to Saturday 29th October.”
F1Rocks™ added that “every conceivable effort had been made for the concert to go ahead today, but in view of public safety and in consultation with the event organiser DNA Entertainment Networks and representatives from Metallica the decision was made to cancel the show.
“We would like to offer our sincerest apologies to the many enthusiastic fans who were looking forward to watch a great band perform.”
Metallica, who were set to headline the event, added: “It is most regrettable that we were forced to take such measures,” said the American group. “We were very much looking forward to meeting our fans and sharing our music live for the first time in India.”
