The organisers of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix set to take place in under two weeks, are confident the event will be a sell-out.
The circuit was opened to the media on Tuesdsay to showcase the facilities which are nearing completion, bar a few final touches. Neel Jarni even completed a lap of the circuit in the Red Bull showcar.
Sameer Gaur, chief executive of the Jaypee Group, the owners of the track, revealed that 70% of the grandstand tickets had been sold, whilst almost all the corporate blocks had been filled.
“We’re giving the venue final touches and the next seven days are enough to take care of that,” he told the Times of India. “The tickets sales have been fantastic with 70% of all tickets and 90% of the corporate blocks sold.”
Indian driver Karun Chandhok, who hopes to compete at his home race with Team Lotus, said he fully expects a full-house.
“When I last spoke to the JPSI guys they told me tickets are selling fast and they have no reason to believe that it will not be a full house,” he told The F1 Times.
“India is a large country full of Formula One fans and I am sure we will see people from all ends of the country filtering into the Buddh International Circuit in large numbers for the race weekend.”
The circuit holds upwards of 130,000 fans, making it one of the highest capacity circuits on the calendar.
