Nico Rosberg looks likely to sign a long-term deal with Mercedes which would see the German with the team until at least 2015.
Rosberg currently has a contract with the Anglo-German team until 2012 to race alongside seven-time champion Michael Schumacher.
German media reports that negotiations are underway behind the scenes with both team principal Ross Brawn, and Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug, keen to retain his services as they strive to move up the grid.
“Nico [Rosberg] and Mercedes are interested in a very long-term cooperation,” Haug is recently quoted as saying.
Rosberg is confident that the outfit will make improvements as it builds up its capabilities, enabling him to challenge the likes of Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari.
“When I see what’s happening in the factory, I’m very confident…” said Rosberg.
It’s believed the only sticking point with a new contract is the likely vacant seats at Red Bull and Ferrari in 2013, with both outfits expected to drop Mark Webber and Felipe Massa respectively.
