Daniel Ricciardo beat his teammate on Saturday for the first time after he qualified 23rd, almost two-tenths quicker than the far more experienced Vitantonio Liuzzi.
The Australian declared himself “happy” to have achieved his target, but he’s left wanting more.
“It feels really nice not being on the back of the grid and finishing ahead of Tonio, which is a small target I had set myself, so I’m happy to have achieved that,” said the HRT driver.
“But I don’t want to stop there, I want to do it constantly and progress in one way or another.”
It’s been a difficult weekend for Ricciardo so far after spending much of the three practice sessions stuck in the garage after suffering mechanical issues with his F111.
