Organisers of the United States Grand Prix track under construction in Austin have denied that work has been halted as a result of financial problems.
Reports in the Statesman newspaper suggest work has ground to a halt, with the main contractor, Austin Commercial, telling its subcontractors to ‘lay off for a few weeks due to insufficient funds.’
Circuit spokesman Jeff Hahn denied the rumours. Hahn was adamant that work is continuing at the circuit and funds are released in stages which dictates when work can and can’t be done.
He even suggested the work was ahead of schedule because of the recent dry weather which meant the latest funds had run out earlier than planned, but another release of funds was just days away.
“We’re matching the [bank] draw schedule to the construction schedule,” he said.
According to Tim Wood of Austin F1, who visited the circuit today, construction is ongoing with trucks arriving on a regular basis whilst works continue on the substation which will power the circuit, the second access tunnel and the stadium section.
