Nico Hulkenberg, currently Force India’s third driver, has set his sights firmly on securing a race seat at the Vijay Mallya owned outfit for the 2012 season.
The young-German joined the squad at the beginning of the current season having lost his race seat at Williams to pay-driver Pastor Maldonado.
That decision wasn’t known to Hulkenberg until after the last race in Abu Dhabi, giving him very little chance to secure another seat at another team, but having taken a year out and competed in several practice sessions with Force India, he’s confident he’s impressed enough to race alongside either Paul di Resta or Adrian Sutil, though he admitted a decision was a long way off.
“Vijay Mallya has said on December 15th that the drivers for 2012 will be confirmed,” said the 23-year-old. “The riders will be informed several days in advance, so I will have to be patient for a long time.
“You can never be one hundred percent sure that you can race next year, but I’m confident, the feedback from the team suggests that they are very satisfied with me.”
