Lewis Hamilton has revealed that his difficult year as Fernando Alonso’s teammate taught him how to be a better driver.
The pair were united together at McLaren in 2007, but endured a fierce off-track battle as the two drivers struggled to bond with one another.
Hamilton believes the year spent together has improved his driving skill and even hinted at the future possibility of joining the Spaniard at Ferrari.
“Alonso is a very, very fast driver, incredibly fast, with extraordinary talent and incredible speed. You know that he will always give his best,” the 2008 champion told AS.
“I learned a lot with him, I improved my driving thanks to having him as a team-mate.”
On a possible future at Ferrari, Hamilton added: “At the moment I don’t have any plans to do so, it is not something I desire or feel that I have to do.
“But we are talking about a fantastic team and you never know what could happen in the future.”
Alonso earlier admitted he would happily share a team with Hamilton, as long as it wasn’t at McLaren.
“Why not? I have no problem with Hamilton and neither did we have one at McLaren,” he said in June. “I have the absolute respect for him. As long as it wasn’t at McLaren, sharing a team with Hamilton would be good.”
