Team Lotus are the first of the “newer teams” to get the advantage of a KERS system after the team have come to an arrangement with their technology partner, Red Bull Racing.
The reigning world champions’ KERS system may seem a strange choice after all the difficulties they’ve encountered this season, but any advantage gained from having KERS will be welcomed by Tony Fernandes and his team.
The system that will be used by Team Lotus is the Magneti Marelli system that is developed in cooperation with Lotus Renault GP.
Fernandes confirmed they had struck a deal with Red Bull, however, it is uncertain how quickly the device will be available to Lotus, and just what sacrifices will have to be made to their current setup.
