Fernando Alonso has hailed his British Grand Prix win, his first this season, as a ‘huge boost’ for the Ferrari team.
The Spaniard earlier marked the race, which represents the mid-way point in the season, as the turning point for Ferrari, a must win race and he certainly delivered.
“Obviously it is a huge boost for us. We were confident of being quick here at Silverstone,” he said after the race.
Alonso alluded to the fact that the Silverstone track, similar to Barcelona, wasn’t one which would play to their strengths, making the win even more meaningful.
“No doubts it was a race that had one red cross because it was not an easy grand prix for us, the characteristics of the corners, and the layout were never our strongest points.
“We knew that Silverstone, like Barcelona, was difficult for us, so winning here is a good motivation for everyone and gives us confidence approaching the next few races.”
He currently lies third in the championship having leaped Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, but remains 92-points off Sebastian Vettel’s lead.
