The organisers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have decided to postpone planned changes to the track in order to spice up the on-track action.
Following a processional finale to the 2010 season, in which Sebastian Vettel went unchallenged from start to finish, thanks to the few overtaking opportunities presented, the organisers announced changes would be made.
However, those have now been delayed pending the outcome of this years race. CEO of the Yas Marina Circuit, Richard Cregan, cites the many changes introduced this season, including DRS, Pirelli tyres and KERS, as a reason to wait and see how things pan out.
“With all the changes implemented by the FIA, the racing so far this year has been full of overtaking and excitement,” Cregan told The National. “So we decided, rather than spend a whole lot of money making these changes, we’ll wait and see how [the 2011 event] goes first.”
Cregan added that the changes are simply postponed, and could go ahead for next season if the action hasn’t improved.
“The plans are effectively postponed until we see how things go at this year’s race.”
