Vitaly Petrov is said to be uninjured, suffering only brusing to his legs, following a heavy crash in Monaco which saw several cars sustain damage.
On lap 69 of 78, as the leaders attempted to pass the backmarkers, a chain of events which started with Adrian Sutil hitting the wall resulted in the session being red flagged.
A slow Lewis Hamilton, having braked to avoid Sutil, was rear-ended by Jaime Alguersuari, whilst he and Petrov retired after the collided with the barriers.
A safety car, the second of the day, was brought out but after the marshalls signalled that Petrov may be injured, the stewards red flagged the session as he was removed from the car and taken to hospital.
The Renault team have confirmed that he was unconcious for a few seconds after the incident, but has sustained no injuries other than bruising to his legs.
“After his crash during the Monaco GP this afternoon, Vitaly complained about his left ankle to the medical crew, so doctors drove him to the Princess Grace hospital for further checks. No fracture had been diagnosed at the circuit,” read a statement.
“Once at hospital, it was confirmed that there was no swelling or broken bone. As a precaution, Vitaly will undergo a full body scan but he should be back in the paddock within a few hours.”
