Robert Kubica could make a return to his cockpit in a racing role, not just a test role, according to the Polish drivers manager, Daniele Morelli.
After sustaining major injuries following a rallying crash, prior to the start of the season, Kubica has been recovering in an Italian hospital and his Monaco home.
Whilst Gerard Lopez, owner of the Renault outfit ruled out any competitive return this year, Morelli says there is no evidence to support such a decision.
“I wouldn’t suggest betting Robert won’t be back before the end of 2011,” he told the BBC in Monaco.
“What Lopez said is not corresponding with the information that we have. There is no basis to make such a statement.
“We [speak] daily with Robert, we know what the doctors are saying, what [Renault team doctor] Dr Ceccarelli, who is coordinating the recovery programme, is saying,” he added.
Whilst Lopez is keen on Kubica returning, he believes a Friday test role toward the end of the 2011 season would be more suitable for the one-time race winner, but Morelli believes that should be the very minimum the team do to aid his recovery.
“We have a lot of information and what Lopez is saying is not corresponding with the information that we have.
“To give a Friday session to Robert is the minimum that the team should give to support its driver. It looks to me kind of an insufficient proposal.
“When Robert is back, he will be back because he will be capable of doing what he did the day before the accident.”
