Jerome d’Ambrosio’s seat at Virgin Racing is secure until the end of the season, according to the outfits team principal, John Booth.
Rumours had circulated that the young Belgian could be dropped in the near future after it was confirmed that his sponsors have failed to pay-up.
Booth though has rubbished the speculation, saying their line-up won’t change until at least the end of the year.
“Everything is fine with him,” he told local newspaper the Sheffield Star. “You can never say never because you can end up looking a fool, but, as things stand now, I can’t envisage anything changing with Jerome until the end of the season.”
The rumoured successor to d’Ambrosio was reportedly Canadian driver, Robert Wickens. Booth said the Renault 3.5 driver wasn’t quite ready for Formula 1 yet.
“He [Wickens] is in our young driver stable but we certainly don’t plan on putting him in a F1 car yet,” added Booht. “Robert is concentrating on his Renault series. He is doing a good job in that. We will then take it from there.”
