Bahrain is ready to host Formula One again, says the chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit, Zayed Rashed Al Zayani.
The deadline for the event to be reorganised was delayed to June 3rd following a meeting between the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone and the organisers.
Zayani says things have now settled down in the country and they are ready for the sport to return this year.
“We are happy to have F1 back in Bahrain,” he told Autosport. “We have been there for seven grands prix already and we would like to continue.
“We never lodged a request in the first place not to have the race. We just asked for it to be postponed. It was never cancelled to be reinstated. When we did that back in March, we did say that we will continue to monitor the situation. And that is exactly what we are doing.
“We are monitoring the situation and hopefully if things permit…Security is not an issue now. We feel confident that everything is restored back to normal, but things like logistics, and getting it into the calendar – it will be great to have it back. We are looking forward to it.”
The chairman says if it were his decision, the race would take place in 2011, but he is aware that it would impact other events and the teams heavily.
“If it was up to us, we are ready. We are happy to have it. We are ready to host it. But unfortunately it is not our decision alone. There are many factors involved. We are hoping for the best and would like to have the race back obviously.”
