Bernie Ecclestone is almost certain that Formula One’s owner, CVC Capital Partners, wouldn’t sell the sport to News Corp following speculation that media mogul Rupert Murdoch is looking to table an offer.
It was reported that Murdoch has been in talks with the world’s richest man, Carlos Slim of Mexico, to gain control of F1.
Ecclestone has denied such reports, saying CVC are comitted to th sport for the long haul.
“CVC are not in the slightest bit interested in selling,” Ecclestone said in a telephone interview with Bloomberg. “A lot of people approach them but they are there for the long term.
“If they [News Corp] were interested for sure they would have called me and they haven’t.”
Ecclestone says if such a move was made to acquire the sport, the offer would have to be ‘enormous’, well above market value.
“If someone was to come along with an enormous offer, a lot more than it were worth, then they have to look at it,” he added. “They have never talked about selling though.”
