The winner of Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton, says his recent win will provide a major boost to the team back at the factory in Woking.
With the first three flyaway races completed, F1 returns to Europe for a three-week break until the teams head to Turkey for round four.
Major improvements and upgrades are expected for this event, and Hamilton is confident that a win for the MP4-26 will only improve their chances of out-developing their rivals, something they managed to do between pre-season testing and the first race in Australia.
“If you really, really knew how bad the car was behaving in the winter… you would get to 10 laps if you were lucky,” Hamilton told the Guardian when asked to give his assessment of the car before the season began. “The reliability was a disaster.
“While we were being quite cool about it, it was worrying for sure. Then they pushed very hard and in the space of two weeks it was incredible what they were able to bring to Australia. We worked so hard. Our desire to win is huge,” he added.
With the team proving their capability to turn a ‘dog’ into a race winner within three races, things can only get better now they have proven the pace with victory.
“You can’t measure what a win like this does to a group of guys.
“They’ll come into work in the morning with a smile on their face. And when you come into work with a smile on your face I think you do your work that much better than if it’s been a doom and gloom day.
“So this boost will last really well through this little break that we have and hopefully we can make another step closer to these guys [Red Bull].”
