Martin Whitmarsh has made it very clear that he doesn’t want to lose Lewis Hamilton, following talk that he could be on his way to Red Bull in the near future.
The 2008-world champion recently commented that he could happily work with Sebastian Vettel if the situation ever arised.
That came after Red Bull team principal Christian Horner openly praised the 26-year-old, but disputed that the two could work together, citing Hamilton’s recent pairing with Fernando Alonso in 2007.
The Brit is now the most loyal F1 driver having competed in 73 races with a single team, more than any other, overtaking Jim Clark who competed in 72 races with Lotus before his death in 1968.
Whitmarsh is hoping that Hamilton will stick around in Woking for another ten years, something which is unheard of in F1 and could be translated as ‘the rest of his career’.
“There’s no reason why we can’t have 10 more great years [together] and he will in that time bestride this sport and dominate it,” Whitmarsh told the Mirror.
“We see a long career for Lewis ahead and we want to make sure he is a multiple world champion by the time he decides to go on and do other things in his life.”
