Ferrari have revealed that they are working on their own version of Red Bull’s flexible front-wing in a bid to close the large gap between them and the Milton Keynes outfit.
Red Bull have denied that they’re running such a device, however video and photographic evidence clearly shows the front-wing flexing in a downward manner under extreme load – such as that of a long straight.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner tried to explain that it was purely the rake of the car, which runs lower at the front and higher at the rear in comparison to others.
That has however been rubbished by other teams up and down the paddock.
It is thought the wing could provide up to half a second per lap – a massive advantage in Formula One terms which is why many teams are keen to understand how it works, with Ferrari revealing that they are working on a similar wing to be introduced soon.
“We are going deeper in the evaluation of front wings and we will do a ‘flexible’ front wing soon,” revealed Aldo Costa, Ferrari’s technical director.
He also admitted that many engineers within the team aren’t happy with the teams performance.
“At Maranello, we have a lot of talented people and they are very peed off with this situation and I know that everyone is very keen to fight back.”
