The FIA’s Charlie Whiting has admitted the drag-reduction system (DRS) wasn’t as effective as it should have been around the Albert Park circuit.
Jenson Button failed to pass a much slower Felipe Massa on several occasions using the DRS system alongside KERS, whilst it was the same story for many others.
Whiting says the FIA will look at how the system was utilised, admitting the straight wasn’t long enough and the preceeding corner too fast.
“Obviously we will revise the system to make it more effective,” he told Le Temps. “It is true that it wasn’t ideal on the Melbourne circuit.
“The straight is too short and the corner before too fast,” he explained.
Before any drastic changes take place, the governing body will evaluate its usefulness at the Malaysian and Chinese GP’s which have much longer straights with a slower entry.
“We’ll see how it is in Malaysia and China and then we will adapt the system as needed.”
