Nico Rosberg is confident one day he’ll manage what Sebastian Vettel has, the German declared during the Berlin Fashion Week in which he is sporting a new look – one which has seen people failing to recognise him.
“No one recognises me! I walk down the red carpet and no one speaks to me,” he said sporting short hair and a beard which he put down to laziness.
The 25-year-old is hoping an improved Mercedes can put him in the same position as his younger compatriot, Vettel, who secured his maiden drivers’ title in 2010.
“We have learned from our mistakes [during 2010]. I’ll get to where Vettel is now,” Rosberg told Bild am Sonntag. “Sebastian has a good team around him in Red Bull, but I and the whole team at Mercedes are working like crazy to catch up. We can! My goal is to finally win this year.”
He also spoke of team-mate and seven time world champion Michael Schumacher of whom he beat last season. Rosberg expects to do the same again this year.
“It may be close between us,” he said in reference to his team-mate Michael Schumacher. “Maybe he will even beat me, but that depends on me, I doubt it.
“I will bring performance. There is no reason why I should be worse than last year. On the contrary, I want to be better!”
