Marko: Vettel would be stupid to leave Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel would be ‘stupid’ if he left Red Bull to partner Fernando Alonso at Ferrari, that’s the claim of Red Bull’s advisor Helmut Marko.

Rumours have suggested the current world champion could leave the Milton Keynes based team for the Italian marque at the end of his 2011 contract to replace Felipe Massa.

Whilst most drivers dream of racing for the historical team, Marko doesn’t believe the legendary status of the outfit is enough to temp the young German.

“It is natural that a driver dreams of Ferrari, and that Ferrari looks at great drivers like Sebastian,” he told Bild. “But, for the sake of the legend that is Ferrari, he will not leave us.

“He is smart enough to know that the circumstances would all have to fit in and he won’t be moving to Ferrari as long as Fernando Alonso is there – otherwise he’d have to be stupid.”

The former driver stressed that whilst RB can provide the 23-year-old with a championship winning car, he’d be wise not to leave just because of the Ferrari ‘image’.

“We are the world champion’s and as long as we offer Sebastian a package that is better than others, he mustn’t leave just because of a historical image.”
