Ferrari don’t support the idea of a Rome GP

Ferrari doesn’t support a second race in Italy according to team principal Stefano Domenicali, as speculation that Rome could host a race continues.

The outfit has a special connection with the current site of the Italian GP in Monza, which recently signed a new deal to host the race until 2016, meaning the country would have to have two races, something Domenicali believes isn’t possible.

“Our position is very clear and leaves no room for interpretation. Our sport is increasingly expanding the number of countries hosting a grand prix and all the teams are in agreement about that,” he told the Ferrari website.

“Therefore it is inevitable that it will no longer be possible to have two races in the same nation.”

Despite his concerns, he admitted it wasn’t his, or the teams choice on where races were held, but Bernie Ecclestone’s.

“It’s not the job of the teams who choose where a grand prix is held, that’s up to the commercial rights holder. Everything else is pure speculation.”
