Jérôme D’Ambrosio looks likely to move into a race seat for the 2011 season after his manager, Eric Boullier – also Renault team principal, confirmed that 95% of the deal was in place.
The Belgian will likely replace Lucas Di Grassi at Virgin, after driving for the team during first practice on Friday at the Singapore, Japanese and Korean GP’s – he will also take Di Grassi’s Friday practice seat at the upcoming Brazilian GP.
“We have almost 95 percent of the package needed to bring Jérôme D’Ambrosio into Formula 1,” Boullier told Het-Nieuwsblad.
“The remaining five percent [will be confirmed] in a matter of days.
“Then we go to Virgin – the team that made us a concrete proposal for 2011 in September – and their sponsors, who also both want to know what the situation is for next year.”
Boullier is keen to see a firm contract signed before the paddock moves to the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
“I would love to go to the last race in Abu Dhabi with a contract signed and in our pocket.”
