The Renault team haven’t ruled out running Kimi Raikkonen alongside Robert Kubica in 2011, insists team principal Eric Boullier.
The Frenchman told Autosport that the Finnish driver, currently competing in the WRC, features in one of their scenarios for next year.
“It is definitely getting closer to when we will make a decision [on our 2011 line-up],” Boullier said. “But we really want to consider all of the options.
“I decided to tell some drivers that we will not carry on discussions with them, so we now wait and see – but Kimi remains one of our scenarios.”
The former McLaren and Ferrari driver contacted the team earlier this month to express his interest in returning to F1 with the team. A decision Boullier wishes to know more about.
“I have said many times that I want to meet with him first before we do anything more. I want to understand more about his wish to come back.”
Robert Kubica is contracted with the team until the end of 2011. However, rookie Vitaly Petrov, a pay driver, doesn’t have a contract for next season, although his lucrative links with Russia are an interest to the now investment firm owned Renault F1 team.
