Sebastian Vettel kept Red Bull atop the timesheets ahead of his team-mate in second, although over half a second separated the two.
Jenson Button once again put his McLaren at the pointy end of the times, just ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, splitting the two McLaren’s.
Alonso looked as though he would challenge Vettel’s P1 spot, however a mistake in sector three saw him sliding down the escape road. He duly reversed back onto the track before stalling and abandoning his F10, ending his season prematurely.
Adrian Sutil was the second man to make a mistake when he jumped the chicane kerbs. The resultant impact on the following kerb left his car with severe suspension damage.
