Heidfeld and De la Rosa to switch places?

Pirelli tester Nick Heidfeld, and Sauber driver Pedro de la Rosa look set to switch places next week, as rumours suggest the ex-Mercedes test driver will join Peter Sauber’s outfit for the Singapore GP.

The rumours surfaced at the Italian race and were supported by a glum De la Rosa leaving the Sauber motorhome after a brief meeting on Sunday evening.

The switch looks likely to take place after Heidfeld’s third tyre test next week. Naturally, De la Rosa, with many years of testing experience with McLaren could continue Heidfeld’s work for Pirelli.

The move follows rumours that Pedro will be replaced for the 2011 season after putting in some poor performances of late which have often seen him outclassed by team-mate, Kamui Kobayashi, who was confirmed at the team for next season last week.

The rumours have some credible sources behind them and therefore the grid could be featuring Heidfeld in two weeks time at the Singapore GP, as well as the remaining races on the calendar and, quite possibly, partnering Kobayashi next year.
