Mark Webber believes it is too early to start thinking about winning the title at the end of the season, despite holding the lead of the championship after a dominant performance in Hungary last weekend.
Instead, the Australian is taking it one race at a time – which is probably the best attitude as there is still the matter of seven races and 175 points to fight for.
“We are way too far out [to be thinking of the title],” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“We’ve got a lot of people that can win races at this level and we have already seen that. The most important thing for me is the next race. That’s a bit boring, it’s an old cliche, but that’s what it is.
“It’s unrealistic to think I’m going to win the next seven.”
Although it seems hard to imagine anything but a Red Bull dominant second half as the Milton Keynes based outfit are almost a second ahead of their nearest rivals, Ferrari, who are a further half second ahead of McLaren.
“You have got to get everything right in order to do that and the team have worked incredibly hard to get the car to where it is and obviously I’m pretty happy with my driving.”
The last race saw Webber lap Michael Schumacher to which he exclaimed: “That felt good!”
“I’m sure Michael wasn’t having one of his strongest days but he did a lot of that to me back in his day and it was nice to be able to do it [back],” he added.
