Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he is feeling confident ahead of the German Grand-Prix but insists that he can’t get too complacent as there is still a very real threat from other top teams.
“I won the last race at Hockenheim in 2008 – we had a fantastic car, I got pole position and had a great battle through the field after a mid-race Safety Car to win. So I’d really love the same outcome next weekend!”
McLaren will test their blown-diffuser again on Friday in a bid to try and close the gap on their Red Bull rivals. Threat, Hamilton admits, could come from a number of other teams on the track as the development race heats up as we hit the seasons’ mid-point.
“The big question mark surrounds some of the other top teams – they’ve shown improved performance over the past two or three races,” Hamilton told his Official website.
“It will be interesting to see just how close things have become up at the sharp-end, because this could affect the way the world championship plays out, particularly if more teams start challenging for victory in the second half of the season.”
McLaren boss, Martin Whitmarsh, has said that the team will be doing a “major test programme” on Friday with their blown-diffuser.
The outcome of the tests will decide whether the Woking-based squad run the device for the entire weekend, a decision Whitmarsh insists, “we’ll only make after a thorough analysis of the inherent risks and benefits.”
