Former Brabham F1 driver, Hans-Joachim Stuck has come out in defence of Mark Webber following what he called an “outrage” which saw Webber forfeit his upgraded front wing before the British Grand-Prix to team-mate, Sebastien Vettel.
The 59-year old German driver, now Volkswagen’s motorsport representative, has warned Red Bull supremo, Dietrich Mateschitz that Christian Horner is simply a “puppet” to Red Bull advisor Marko and insists that it is in the best interest of the team to replace the pair.
The man Stuck suggests should fill the role is none-other than Red Bull’s sister team, Toro Rosso, boss, Franz Tost.
“What the team management did in Britain was an absolute outrage, Whoever decided to take the new wing away from Webber qualified for his final pension,” Stuck told TZ newspaper.
Stuck made 74 race starts between 1974 and 1979 and was on the podium twice. He continued by saying, “Christian Horner is just a puppet – the strings for Red Bull boss, Dietrich Mateschitz, are pulled solely by Marko. Mateschitz must respond by putting in a new man at Red Bull; Tost is in every respect one of the best managers in F1.”
Stuck’s comments come just days after a rather scripted apology by Mark Webber was released on his official site.
