Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have cleared the air after tensions between the two re-ignited in Valencia when Hamilton overtook the safety car, gaining several places, whilst Alonso dropped back having followed the rules.
Matters were then made worse when the Brit was penalised 17-laps after the incident, that allowed the McLaren driver to build a big enough gap, maintaining second when he left the pits after his drive-through.
“We messaged the other day and things are cool,” Hamilton told the Press Association Sport.
“I messaged him to see how he was doing. He said everything’s cool, that he knows how the racing world works and this is a tough year.”
Hamilton has been spending the past week relaxing in Monaco as he prepares for the British GP this coming weekend.
“I’m relaxed as can be,” said Hamilton. “But I had such a great week. I had my first few days holiday for a good year, so I feel really good.
“I spent most of my days in Monaco, and it was cool to be there. I was in a really private place nearby.
“We drove there at night, went to dinner, to the casino and had some fun. It was really cool.
“But this is going to be a tough week. It gets so busy. It’s just trying to maintain all the energy you have.”
