Mark Webber looks set to sign with Red Bull for another year after taking two dominant wins in the past two races.
Webber’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season, whilst many reports have linked him with Ferrari to replace Felipe Massa, such a move looks highly unlikely.
Christian Horner made it clear that Webber features in the teams future plans.
“We are very happy with the way that Mark is performing,” he told Autosport. “He’s an important member of our team and he has got to a stage where, at 33, we said let’s take one year at a time rather than signing some long-winded agreement.
“I am very happy with the balance and dynamics in team, and there is nothing that we would change.
“It’s all down to relationships and how he feels at the end of the day. He is driving fantastically well, he is a very valued member of the team, so when the time comes to sit down and talk about contracts I am sure it will be a very short conversation,” said Horner.
When asked whether it made sense to get the contract signed before the title fight begins, Horner hinted that a decision would be made at the usual time of May to June.
“Over the last couple of years it’s been around the end of May and beginning of June that we begin to talk about things. But with Mark, like all things, it is pretty straightforward.”
