Mark Webber is downplaying his chances at championship glory despite dominating the previous two grand prix in Spain and Monaco.
The Australian took the lead of the drivers championship on equal points with teammate Sebastian Vettel, although Webber has two wins to Vettel’s one, putting him top.
Webber realises he’s in a good position, but denied it’s now a two-horse race to the championship between him and Vettel.
“We’re in a good position and we have a good foundation,” he said. “But no-one knows who is going to be in the hunt with a few races to go. I don’t think it’s between two guys.
“Two races ago everyone was saying someone else,” said Webber when Jenson Button led the championship. “In two races’ time they might be saying someone else again.
“Obviously, Seb and I are equal on points. We’ve got some different venues coming up, keep in mind that engines are going to come into play in the back part of the championship.”
McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes are racing to catch up with the Red Bull’s blistering pace. Having claimed every pole position this season, the RB6 seems to suit every type of track which isn’t good news for their competitors.
